Amazon Lore x Great Big Story

The Animated Phenomenon—Unveiling The Mysteries of Lore in Partnership with Amazon and Great Big Story

The Challenge

In a world teeming with myths, folklore, and unexplainable phenomena, Amazon’s hit podcast series “Lore” had captivated over 5 million weekly listeners. With the news leaking that Amazon would bring the podcast to televisions everywhere, the challenge was to whet the appetite of its existing fanbase while intriguing new audiences. Enter Great Big Story, Courageous Studios, and our team of creative animators.

The Approach

Great Big Story was tasked with creating an offering that would both tease and appease the podcast’s curious and daring fans. In collaboration with the creators of “Lore,” the team took a deep dive into unsolved mysteries to develop three historically accurate animated shorts, offered in both 2D and 3D. One notable example was an exploration of the “Taos Hum,” a mysterious auditory phenomenon still unexplained by modern science.

Stylistic Choices

The animation style was carefully curated to channel the psychological disarray induced by the phenomena being discussed, particularly the Taos Hum. This approach augmented the storytelling, creating a gripping and chilling narrative that offered little in terms of scientific conclusion but a lot in terms of engagement.

The Results

  • The shorts received more than 3 million views in the first week of release.
  • Fans loved the story and the videos became a compelling addition to “Lore’s” existing universe.
  • The films initiated conversations among skeptics who tried to solve the mysteries themselves and connected the folklore to present-day events.

Audience Engagement and Beyond

Our unique and stylistic approach to the animation for these videos has not only captured the attention but also fueled the imaginations of “Lore” fans. The challenges they crave were met, and the anticipation for Amazon’s new series was substantially energized.
